Job Purpose – Attract, engage, recruit and manage operatives to fulfil project labour supply requirements and maximise opportunities for new business

Key Responsibilities, Duties and Tasks

Recruitment

  • Utilise network of contacts to source candidates and fill vacancies
  • Communicate details of potential jobs to prospective candidates
  • Brief the Resource team with regards to project requirements and liaise with them regarding the supply of prospective candidates
  • Ensure personnel are recruited in accordance with agreed company procedures
  • Ensure that original qualifications and Proof of Right to Work in the UK for all personnel are viewed and copies are taken prior to commencement of employment
  • Forward all recruitment paperwork to the HR department so that references and qualifications can be verified and the packs processed in time for the weekly payroll
  • Ensure that VGC site inductions are undertaken face to face with new recruits

Contract Management

  • Attend contract meetings/discussions as necessary
  • Be the first point of contact for, and liaise regularly with, clients
  • Respond to the client’s ongoing labour requirements (e.g. increasing/decreasing supply, organising cover for absence etc.)
  • Complete regular skill and reliability assessments
  • Escalate issues to the Operations Manager when appropriate
  • Work in collaboration with other departments as required (e.g. HR, Training, Payroll, HSQE)
  • Ensure accurate timesheet information is provided to Payroll on a weekly basis
  • Check and process lodge forms as required
  • Ensure holidays are managed to ensure continuous cover on contracts
  • Ensure details of all leavers are submitted to head office
  • Submit bonus application on a monthly basis
  • Support and progress the company’s Sustainability agenda at every opportunity
  • Deputise for Operations Manager and other Labour Managers where required
  • Significant travel may be required to fulfil all client/site responsibilities

People Management

  • Meet regularly with operatives on site to discuss project progress, resolve any issues and answer queries (e.g. holiday, pay, transport)
  • Respond to workers’ individual circumstances (e.g. sickness, bereavement, unauthorised absence) and take appropriate action
  • Manage performance issues (e.g. grievances, disciplinaries) as required
  • Ensure operatives receive formal or on-the-job training required by the project and that appropriate qualifications are maintained/developed

Commercial/Business Development

  • Identify new business leads and opportunities; seek out information on upcoming client requirements
  • Keep the Operations Manager informed about project matters and business development opportunities identified
  • Participate in client entertainment events
  • Monitor and manage agreed budgets
  • Establish a working relationship with the commercial teams of clients
  • Ensure any variation to agreed rates or designation is signed off by the client’s relevant representative
  • Work with relevant parties to resolve any payment issues

Compliance

  • Ensure Primary Sponsorship obligations are fulfilled and manage Subsponsor requests
  • Champion a robust approach to Health & Safety
  • Carry out regular Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental site inspections and implement any remedial action required
  • Deliver core briefs (e.g. Health & Safety) and toolbox talks as required
  • Ensure correct PPE is issued to operatives
  • Ensure that all accidents, incidents and near misses are reported and investigated promptly and that any remedial action is implemented as necessary, in consultation with HSQE

Key Skills Required:

Essential:

  • Interviewing skills
  • Budget management skills
  • Valid driving licence
  • Broad technical knowledge of the sector, including an understanding of relevant industry legislation
  • Knowledge of fundamental employment legislation
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Personal Track Safety Certificate (PTS) – training can be arranged
  • CSCS Qualified (Supervisor Level) including Health & Safety tested – training can be arranged
