Transition Support Officer (Scotland)

28 Hours per week over 4 days (Flexible working considered)  
Salary – Circa £29,000 pa (Pro-rata) 

Following a successful pilot during the last 10 months, a new position has been created working with Royal Marines in transition from service, and veterans who may be in need of support following leaving the Royal Marines. The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of the Royal Marines and particularly the recovery process for the Naval Service. Ideally, they will have been employed in a health or social care background or will have proven experience of working within Armed Forces medical, welfare or support areas.

The position will be located in Scotland with the ability to travel to both 45 Commando RM in Arbroath and 43 Commando RM in Helensburgh to carry out essential casework, case conferences and face to face meetings with beneficiaries this will be a regular requirement. The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel as part of this role and have their own transport.

Job Description

  • Responsible for developing working practices with HASLER, RM Recovery Troops (Scotland – 45 Cdo), NS Personnel Support Groups (43 Cdo RM)
  • Responsible for developing working practices in line with Naval Service Recovery Pathway
  • Responsible for developing practices in Scotland in support of vulnerable RM service leavers
  • Responsible for signposting to appropriate charities and public bodies
  • Accountable to Casework Manager for accurate assessment and case recording
  • Responsible for maintaining links with vulnerable service leavers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and in some cases Northern Counties of England as required
  • Responsible to Casework Manager to provide relevant monthly and Social Value Portal statistics
  • Responsible for providing presentations to stakeholders and beneficiaries about RM charitable support services
  • Authorised to attend case conferences and multidisciplinary meetings as required

Key knowledge, skills and qualifications

  • Sound knowledge of the Naval Service Wounded Injured and Sick WIS recovery pathway
  • Knowledge and skills commensurate with role to include:
  • Empathetic nature
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Enhanced IT skills
  • Agile approach to working with an ability to travel. Some evenings and weekends and occasional overseas travel
  • Royal Marines ‘Corps Family’ knowledge (desirable not essential)
  • A qualification or evidence of previous experience of working with Serving Personnel or Veterans in a support capacity
  • Hold a valid UK Driving licence and access to own vehicle
  • Be IT literate and with knowledge of SharePoint, MS Teams and MS Office 365
  • Ability to network with other service charities, Local Authorities and an understanding of veterans needs in Scotland and Northern Ireland

The successful candidate would be expected to undertake some of their induction and initial training in Plymouth, Commando Training Centre-Exmouth, Devon and Portsmouth. Travel and Accommodation will be provided. A Hybrid of home and office working will be required.
