HighGround Virtual Rural Week 2021
The Virtual Rural Week (VRW) was developed in 2020 in the face of COVID-19 restrictions
Many aspects of a Rural Week, visits, hands-on and face-to-face interaction clearly cannot be replicated online. However, some subjects are already delivered by a presentation during a Rural Week and certain aspects of other subjects could be adapted to present online. Representing circa 70% of Land-Based Sector employment and self-employment opportunities.
A VRW typically runs from Monday to Wednesday three sessions each morning with breaks between each session. The presenters have supported the Rural Week programme previously so understand the information and detail Service Leavers and Veterans require. Equally they will take questions and provide advice.
Only a Pavement Away
Veteran Life Skills Hub
Only A Pavement Away is bringing its Life Skills Hub programme to veterans, where the aim is to optimise and harness the skills and competencies in preparation for veterans and military leavers, while developing their existing skillset in preparation for a role in the hospitality industry.
The purpose of the Only A Pavement Away Veteran Life Skills Programme is to help those that have left the military to gain the confidence to enter a new career within the hospitality industry. We aim to utilise their existing skillset to highlight the opportunities within a sector where they can thrive in their next career.
It will also be run in partnership with former senior military leaders who will be running teambuilding and leadership sessions to highlight the existing skills which will enable them to excel in a hospitality role. The programme will include sessions on the hospitality industry and the career opportunities within it, CV writing, interviewing skills the use of IT, guidance to the additional support that the veterans might need, and access to the Only A Pavement Away Jobs Board.
