RMA – The Royal Marines Charity extended special thanks to long-serving founding civilian trustee, Richard Weaver, at its recent annual flagship fundraising Dinner at the Guildhall in London.

Richard – a senior partner of audit firm HaysMacintyre and Head of Charities and Not For Profit (NFP) – has had to step down having served the maximum period of time permitted as a trustee however will remain involved as an independent advisor.

He was appointed in 2013 to provide financial, risk and audit oversight at the time of a series of three complex mergers. This was the consolidation and transformation of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund from a small fund alongside the Royal Marines Association and other Royal Marines-focused charities, to form the united whole service delivery charity that today offers comprehensive through-life support to the Corps Family.

Mrs Lynn Fordham, Chair of RMA – The Royal Marines Charity said: “Richard’s regular, time-consuming and detailed support ensured that the Charity was established as a credible and well-governed Service Charity. The detailed work involved in securing these mergers was extensive and Richard’s skilled oversight was, and has remained, invaluable.

He has displayed selfless commitment and boundless energy despite an extremely demanding day job and has always been there to provide detailed support and advice to the Board and Executive. This was particularly so when Covid-19 simultaneously decimated income but increased presented need, ensuring that the Charity ended 2020 in strong health. We offer him our heartfelt thanks and wish him every success in the future – and we couldn’t be more pleased that he will still be here for us, albeit in a different guise.”

Throughout his period as a trustee, Richard has also served as the Board’s nominee on the parent charity Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity’s Finance, Risk and Audit Committee, and so has contributed further to the wider outputs of the Royal Navy’s principal charity.
