An exciting full-time opportunity has arisen within our Employment and Education team at RMA – The Royal Marines Charity. As the Employment Officer, you will join a forward-thinking, progressive team dedicated to providing comprehensive career guidance and targeted signposting to employers and training providers.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting service leavers, those being medically discharged, veterans, and spouses within our Corps family. Your duties will include conducting one-on-one career consultations, developing personalised career plans, and facilitating connections with potential employers and educational institutions. You will also provide ongoing support to ensure successful transitions into civilian employment.

Additionally, you will collaborate with various stakeholders, including military units, external organisations, and training providers, to create a robust network of opportunities for our beneficiaries. Your proactive approach and commitment to continuous improvement will be essential in driving the success of our employment and education initiatives.

Operational Support and Guidance

  • Assist beneficiaries in identifying suitable career paths and setting realistic employment goals. Provide expert advice to manage their expectations effectively.
  • Offer comprehensive support with CV writing, job applications, and interview preparation to enhance beneficiaries’ employability.
  • Conduct regular check-ins at 3, 6, 9, and 12-month intervals with beneficiaries and employers to monitor progress and address any issues.
  • Facilitate grant requests and processing, ensuring beneficiaries receive the necessary financial support with our guidelines.

Employment Engagement

  • Manage the Employment and Education team jobs board, submitting all adverts in standardised format. Sourcing appropriate opportunities through our network
  • Promote the benefits of hiring veterans and service leavers to potential employers. Working alongside the Employers Recognition Scheme and Armed Forces Covenant delivery
  • Organise and manage the Employment & Education teams events page with up-to-date networking events, jobs fairs and insight days.

Program support

  • Work alongside our Head of Employment and Education to support workshops and training sessions.
  • Work with the Employment & Education team to continuously improve the employment support currently available and develop new transition initiatives.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Create and maintain accurate records on all platforms for candidates and contacts in line with current GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) legislation
  • Produce accurate data for external reporting

Collaboration and Networking

  • Collaborate with other team members and external partners to provide holistic support to beneficiaries.
  • Act as a liaison between beneficiaries, charity partners, employers, and stakeholders.
  • Support the wider charity when needed in events and weekend support. Time off in lieu will be given

Skills and Attributes

  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within a charitable or military support organisation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Working knowledge of the civilian recruitment process.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and making independent decisions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Client Management Systems, Teams, Social Media, and SharePoint.

Senior Operations Manager

About the Role:

This is a new, Scotland-based role reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The purpose of the role is to develop and improve the RMA-TRMC (the Charity’s) concept of operations in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and prescribed population areas of northern England (collectively known as the region). The incumbent will develop the strategic intent of the charity with guidance from the CEO and deputise for him and the SLT in the region where necessary.

They should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of the Charity, its operations, the wider military charity sector, how veterans’ affairs are managed in the region and enable the adoption of better practice where necessary. The role involves strategic planning, relationship management, and operational oversight to ensure the charity’s mission is effectively carried out in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities:

Liaison and Advocacy:

  • Act as the primary liaison between the charity and the Veterans Commissioner (Scotland), RBL Group, SSAFA, and other military third sector organisations.
  • Advocate on behalf of Royal Marines veterans’ affairs in the region, ensuring their needs and concerns are represented and addressed.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with philanthropic High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs), working closely with the Director of Fundraising and Communications and the Development Director to drive income growth.
  • Support major events as needed, actively participating, guiding, and advising to maximise engagement, strengthen connections, and secure long-term support.

Membership Activities:

  • Lead all membership activities in the region in collaboration with the Membership Director, ensuring effective communication and support for RMA-TRMC branches.
  • Provide a link between the serving Corps and the charity, offering help and assistance when necessary.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Royal Marines veterans and their families in the region, providing guidance and support through existing RMA-TRMC channels and pillars.

Operational Management:

  • Develop and improve the charity’s concept of operations in the region, aligning with the strategic intent set by the CEO.
  • Deputise for the CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in the region when necessary, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making.
  • Manage, guide, and advise the Fundraising Manager and Transition Support Officer (North), ensuring their activities align with the charity’s goals and objectives.

Additional Information:

  • The role holder will maintain and further develop strong relationships with philanthropic High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWI) in the region and assist, where appropriate, with major events, participating, guiding, and advising as necessary.
  • The role holder will also lead or support all RMA membership activity in the region in direct liaison with the Membership Ops Director (OPCON), visiting and supporting RMA-TRMC branches in conjunction with the Membership Team.
  • They will provide a complementary signposting function to those Royal Marines past and present that need charitable support in the region, by directing them to current support networks and staff through existing RMA-TRMC channels and pillars.
  • The role holder will be diplomatic and approachable with a strong ability to communicate verbally and in writing. They will be a confident self-starter, at ease in a military environment and able to adapt as the Charity continues to evolve.
  • They will lead on liaison with other military charities in the region. They will also require problem-solving skills and excellent judgement combined with a meticulous and disciplined approach to work with proven organisational and programme development skills.
  • They must be able to prioritise a varied and busy workload, delivering to deadlines and acting without daily supervision.
  • The role holder should be willing to attend events and meetings outside of normal working hours in the conduct of their duties and travel to the charity offices in Devon when necessary.

Membership Coordinator and Finance Officer

Job Purpose:

We are offering a full-time permanent position for a Membership Coordinator and Finance Officer to work within the Association strand of RMA the Royal Marines Charity.

As the Membership Coordinator, you will assume the duty of clerical and administrative support to optimise the workflow procedure within the Membership office.

You will assist colleagues by supporting them with the daily running of the Membership. You will be one of the main points of contact for all queries and requests from Membership and will be the primary focus for those branches that have adopted the use of custodian accounts. As the Branch Finance Officer, you will also provide advice to other branch treasurers as required. You will be an integral part of RMA-The Royal Marines Charity workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out duties as directed by the Membership Director.
  • Process applications for Full, Associate, and Supporting members.
  • Utilise the website to produce events and online tickets.
  • Complete administration tasks and correlate relevant information for events.
  • Assist with event management as required.
  • Manage and support funerals, providing advice and assistance to families.
  • Produce membership statistics and carry out data cleansing.
  • Maintain the database and website, working with providers to resolve issues.
  • Support branches to synchronise member information.
  • Upload branch photos and stories to the website.
  • Help branches order standards and send out fundraising items and membership forms.
  • Respond to branch enquiries concerning fundraising and process branch fundraised income.
  • Administer new branches, including database and website updates and protocol guidance.
  • Serve as Secretary and Membership official for the RMA Families Branch.
  • Respond to correspondence from members and write thank you letters.
  • Direct grant requests.
  • Work weekends as required and travel to events.

Other Tasks:

  • Coordinate quarterly branch donations.
  • Keep the Membership Director updated on branch finance matters.

Hours and Salary:

  • Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week (08:00 to 16:00 weekdays). Some weekends required, with time off in lieu.
  • Office based at CTCRM, Lympstone, Exmouth, EX8 5AR.
  • Salary: £24K per annum
