Audiences at this year’s 52nd Mountbatten Festival of Music (MFM) at the Royal Albert Hall in March are in for an extra special treat when global drumming icon of Iron Maiden fame, Nicko McBrain, takes to the stage to join The Massed Bands of His Majesty’s Royal Marines.
The awesome Mission Spiritus Antarctica team – former Royal Marines Alan Chambers MBE and Dave Thomas – have been making excellent progress over Christmas and New Year as they head ever closer to the geographic South Pole.
In 2010, safely back in Camp Bastion and two days before he was due to return home to his family in the UK, Corporal Phil Eaglesham RM phoned his wife Julie to say he’d be back home with her and his three young sons in just a few days.
The very next day he became ill with flu-like symptoms, and was eventually diagnosed with Q Fever. This is a relatively rare degenerative disease with acute and chronic stages. The prognosis was dire and Phil remembers: “It wasn’t good. I wasn’t expected to survive.”
Thank you – through your selfless support you have helped RMA – The Royal Marines Charity to change and save lives, lift spirits, and make the world a better place for so many of our beneficiaries.
We could not offer the through-life support they deserve without you.
Two former Royal Marines, Alan Chambers MBE and Dave Thomas have set off to ski unassisted to the South Pole. This project will raise much needed funds for RMA – The Royal Marines Charity campaign ‘Mission Critical’ with the aim of flying their flag at the bottom of the world no later than 14th January 2024, a fitting start to the RM360 year of fundraising.
MIOPs Troop, 539 Raiding Squadron conducted a tactical development period on RFA Mounts Bay for a week in September alongside K Coy, 42 Cdo RM in preparation for an upcoming deployment. The training started with static high vertical access (HVA) training on RFA Argus while alongside in Plymouth dockyard. This training was also important to give the less experienced coxswains an opportunity to progress their craft handling in benign conditions.
This week has been as busy as ever – our teams have been out and around; we give thanks for a very generous donation and we bring you the latest news from the South Pole!
Please be aware we will be closed over the festive period from 16:30PM on 22nd December until Tuesday 2nd January.
