‘I am speechless (which is unlike me!!) at the kindness and consideration shown to me and my family.

You guys are truly one in a million and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.’

It was a tough call when ‘Mack’, a former Royal Marine phoned our Health & Wellbeing team asking if there was any support RMA – The Royal Marines Charity could offer his adult son following the re-occurrence of his cancer and terminal diagnosis.

Because Mack’s son had never served in the military nor had any job with any associated charity attached with it, all it seemed possible to do was suggest a referral to a cancer care charity.

However, it was then discovered that Mack, who lives in the North East, would have to use his limited savings to soon pay for his son’s funeral, and had problems with finding the money to regularly visit his son living hundreds of miles away in the South West.

Having fully assessed the situation, and in partnership with SSAFA, RMA – The Royal Marines Charity was able to award him a grant towards travel and accommodation costs so that he and his family could make the most of the very precious, yet limited time, they would be able to have with their son before he passed.

Can I thank you so much for the grant you have awarded me towards the costs of travelling to see our son.

Unfortunately, and despite him fighting all the way, he died whilst in the care of his local hospice. I am now going through the hell of planning my boy’s funeral.

The kind financial gesture from the Royal Marines Charity gave me the chance to see and rebuild my fatherly bond with him. I would never have been able to do this without your help and for that I can never thank or repay you enough.’
