Job Purpose
To carry out high level diagnostic, remedial, preparation and mechanical work to vehicles.
Main Responsibilities
·         Carry out a used vehicle check by inspecting and servicing vehicles (dependant on service history) when they are delivered to the business and make minor repairs or adjustments to ensure the saleable condition of the vehicle.

·         Examine vehicles and carry out diagnostic tests to accurately determine faults.

·         Identify possible repair work for future.

·         Carry out pre delivery inspections for new vehicles delivered.

·         Repair and replace faulty vehicle parts.

·         Perform test drives upon completion of work as part of the quality checks.

·         Carry out scheduled servicing and maintenance.

·         Update vehicle service records.

·         Install and fit new vehicle accessories.

·         Ensure accurate clocking on and off jobs working within allotted time scales to achieve a high level of productivity and maximum efficiency.

·         Ensure vehicles are MOT inspected according to ministry standards.

·         Ensure admin tasks are carried out in a clear and concise manner ready for audit.

·         Ensure protective equipment is used to maintain vehicle cleanliness.

·         Perform routine maintenance and general mechanic work on vehicles.

·         Ensure the workspace is kept clean and tidy at all times.

·         Ensure tools and equipment are calibrated and well maintained at all times.

·         Ensure effective communication with the parts manager, workshop controller and service advisor to allow a smooth and efficient workflow through the workshop.

·         Ensure all franchise training is completed within manufacturer requirements.

·         Ensure quality checks are carried out on all vehicles and any further rectification is carried out promptly.

Problem solving

·         If something breaks or is damaged, outside of the scope of the repair, alert the workshop controller immediately who will ensure appropriate action is taken.

·         On occasion there is the inability to diagnose or fix a vehicle for which the Technician should seek advice from their workshop controller who will instruct them as to the next steps.

Supervision / Line Management Responsibilities of the Post

·         Monitor and oversee work carried out by technicians with less experience.

Budget responsibility

·         Not a budget holder
